For over a decade, yoga teacher Kristen Llorca has been sharing the tools of yoga with children in Miami-Dade public and private schools and in places as diverse as the Costa Rican rainforest and the Italian hills. Her yoga studies formerly began with a focus on the Hatha and Ashtanga traditions, and she later expanded her toolkit to include training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Children’s Yoga, and Trauma-Informed Yoga.
In Kristen’s kids’ yoga classes, students learn to care for their bodies, recognize emotions, and calm their minds in an imaginative, non-competitive environment. As a Miami-Dade Schools Continuing Education Provider, Kristen equips teachers and school mental health professionals with the tools they need to help the children they serve through a comprehensive hands-on, onsite, three-hour workshop.
As a dancer, Kristen was always engrossed by the beauty of movement. Though it wasn’t until her first yoga class twenty years ago that she realized the importance of the mind-body connection. She has since dedicated her life to guiding others in exploring the relationship between the mind, body, and Spirit.
Kristen’s yoga studies formerly began at the Aum Home Shala in Coconut Grove. There she focused mainly on the Hatha and Ashtanga traditions, earning her a 200-hour Yoga Certification through Yoga Alliance. To further her meditation studies, Kristen completed a course in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) through Mindful Miami. She is also an ambassador for the internationally recognized Rainbow Yoga and has completed their Kids Yoga Teacher Training. In addition, she’s earned a certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from eCornell, under the direction of Dr. T. Colin Campbell.
In October of 2016, Kristen spent five days with celebrated teachers Seane Corn, Hala Khouri, and Suzanne Sterling in Atlanta, GA, as part of Off The Mat Into The World’s “Yoga, Purpose, And Action Leadership Intensive”. This training marked a pivotal turning point in how she relates to her own life of practice, as well as how she empowers others to become leaders of their own lives and agents of change in the world.
Tarot was a practice she played with as a child, but hadn’t seen as a path to soul-evolution until, as an adult, the cards found her again. The practice is now a way for Kristen to connect with her subconscious, and to Spirit. In 2019, she took her studies further under the tutelage of a renown tarot educator. The cards are known to make an appearance during our Wild Wonder vacations.
Kristen holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Mass Communications and Journalism and a Master’s of Music in Performing Arts Management from Florida International University. As a writer and journalist, Kristen contributes to all Wild Wonder publications, and other online communities. She also loves travel, reading, and dancing her heart out.
Kristen currently resides in Miami, Florida.
