The Power of Thinking Inside the Box
Rereading “Falling Upward” by Richard Rohr, I was struck by the line “.. many people just keep doing work on the container itself and never throw their nets into the deep to bring in the huge catch that awaits them”.
Now well into my fourth decade on Earth, it may be time to stop tinkering with the container (finding the perfect practice, ritual, work, routine) and go deeper within them instead.
Part of this “thinking inside the box“, as journalist David Epstein would describe it, was to create the online program Teaching Kids Yoga. I’ve gone deep into everything I’ve learned while teaching children yoga over the last twelve years. Turns out, mining my brain for material on teaching kids yoga is like diving into Mary Poppins’ purse.
I was resistant to lassoing myself onto a long leash within a narrow hallway (as innovation researcher Eric Gilliam once phrased it). But within these narrow hallway walls, I’ve found a freedom, peace, and depth that were previously inaccessible. I hope you experience the same.
