Keep Cool This Summer

Greetings from the surface of the sun! How do you keep cool during these dog days of summer?

A few weeks ago, I noticed myself getting hot – both physically and emotionally. And because I’m nothing if not internally dramatic, I started googling things like “symptoms of early menopause”. In my mind, it had to be some kind of hormonal imbalance and not, you know, climate change.

Once I fully exhausted myself doom-scrolling to the beat of Lizzo’s Special, I thought maybe I’m not having hot flashes or I am, but it’s actually because I’m a woman in Florida during the hottest days on record.

This novel idea led me to consider, “okay, well then how do I stay cool when it’s so dang hot?” I’ll spare you the investigative shoots and ladders I played to get to my solution, and just give you what’s been working for me. Here goes …

– committing to a new cardio practice (indoors) to release excess existential angst

– breaking down larger tasks into three daily tasks

– carrying rosewater facial mist in my purse for emergency relief

– creating my own lavender oil by combining lavender essential oil and grape seed oil in a glass dropper bottle to lather on before bed

– adding honey masks to my weekend self-care routine

In Ayurveda (an Indian medicine system), practitioners would also suggest subduing excess fire energy by drinking more water, eating cooling fruits like cucumbers (yes, cucumber is a fruit – I looked it up!), and abstaining from or limiting alcohol consumption. Can I get a “rosè, no way!”?

I hope these tips help you cool down during this sweaty girl summer. Write me and tell me which you’re going to try at kristen@wearewildwonder.com.

Stay cool✌️
